Bachelors of Arts, Masters of Fine Arts, Actor/Playwright/Screenwriter/Novelist/Filmmaker

I have been writing novels, screenplays, plays, songs and poetry for her fifteen years. I also studied theatre at both the undergrad with a Bachelor's of Arts from Western Michigan University and graduate level with a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of California, San Diego. I am an expert in script analysis and story building. I like to dive deep into how to build a fictional world from the ground up, and creating characters whose motives are logical within the world that is built. My favorite genres are magical realism, science fiction, historical fiction, and crime dramas. I use my skills in writing and world building as an actor as well. I create each character as I would the worlds I create in fiction. I start with the simple traits(i.e. "what does my character carry in his pocket" "What is my character's favorite breakfast food" etc.) so that I can find a completely fulfilled character I can embody. I have acted in numerous theatre's across the country such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Seattle Repertory theatre. In these lessons I will follow the principles your instructor has laid out for you and help you reach the highest potential your work can achieve by looking for specifics and help flesh out the world and characters you are creating. I will also help you with script analysis so you can continue thinking deeper about your ideas as you continue on the path of world-building.

Creative Songwriting Screenwriter & Guitar-playing Pianist with The Muse on stand-by

A graduate of Johns Hopkins University's prestigious Krieger School of Arts and Sciences Program in Film and Media Studies, I taught myself to write songs while earning a degree focused in screenwriting and other forms of creative writing. In the ensuing twenty years I have written hundreds of songs on my own and collaborated on hundreds more, many published and released on various independent labels, along with myriad experiences in screenwriting, poetry, prose, direction, videography, musical performance, production and studio session work. I now teach guitar, piano and songwriting at a music company in Nashville and am developing my own songwriting and production business called SongCycle. Current freelance projects include a book-to-film screenplay adaptation for a noted Atlanta production company and upcoming musical releases. My extensive experience includes charting albums of my own composition, a produced screenplay, a Film Composer credit, videography work with Lucinda Williams, Brandi Carlile, Steve Earle and much more. Whether acting as songwriter, screenwriter, prose writer, poet, director, videographer, editor or tutor, it is a writer's overall aesthetic sensibility that permeates, with special attention paid to story structure, framing, syntax, linguistic reference, poetic metaphor, editing, character development and world-building.

Professional Writer, Passionate About Teaching Creativity

My focus has always been to make each piece of writing creative - whether that is in a work of fiction, a memoir, an essay, or even in a job application. Of course, one's creativity is best showcased when there is the freedom of being able to decide your own genre and platform. However, being able to write within the guidelines while still playfully breaking the rules is a huge part of what answers the question that a lot of writers are in search of, "What creative angle should I take with this piece?" The point of this is to brag about my accomplishments, so bear with me. Here's what qualifies me to help you expand your creative writing skills: - Since grade school, I have always scored the highest on my written and verbal skills. I taught my brother how to read when I was still a child (he has a few learning disabilities, so we used different methods to help him learn). I went to a school that graded based on writing capabilities. Every teacher I have ever had has encouraged me to publish my writing, present them at public speaking events, asked to use my essays (mostly the ones I turned into a narrative, because that was more interesting) for their own publications, or encouraged me to pursue creative writing professionally. - The most important qualification: I write. Constantly. About everything. I was a tutor to my brother but also again in college - just because I wanted to help. Mostly it was around creative writing skills and helping people gain more clarity in and through their writing, both in school and professionally. In short, I'm passionate about creativity and helping people establishing their own craft. After eight years of copy writing experience in marketing and public relations, I've decided to move back to where my heart and passion is - creative writing. And I am thrilled to help more voices gain volume in this world.
